The Neon Spotlight
The lights of Sanctuary City dim as the bioluminescent tent of the Trillium Circus pulses with life. Our hero, Fluffy #1410, leaps into the center ring. To the children, he is a master of gravity; to the elders, he is a symbol of joy. But as he spins, his large, expressive eyes are doing more than just performing—they are scanning the crowd for any sign of the unseen.
A flicker of movement near the upper bleachers catches his attention: a shadow that does not belong, sliding between the glowing ribs of the tent like oil through water. Fluffy’s mid-air twirl never falters; the crowd gasps in delight as he lands in a perfect, weightless crouch. Yet beneath the soft fur and the practiced smile, his pulse quickens. The unseen have found Sanctuary City at last.
He rises slowly, arms outstretched for the next feat, while a single thought races through the quiet channels of his mind: the performance must continue—until the final bow, or until the hunters make their move.
